Energy companies are avoiding expensive natural gas for power generation, but some drivers have no choice. The economics of CNG operations have been a firm conviction for 15 years. But today, a car nicknamed G-Tec, TGI, or Ecofuel is 267% more expensive than it was last year. Diesel is 69% higher, LPG is 46% higher, and gasoline is 44% higher.

Enthusiasm waned somewhat when Saudi Arabia began deliberately cheapening oil in 2014, preventing sanctions-free Iran from benefiting from it. Gas stations have increased and manufacturers have turned to CNG vehicles as they reduce the CO2 emissions of their fleets. No one could have imagined that the position would be completely against gasoline.

Few of the previous certainties are valid today. According to the website cng.cz, currently in the Czech Republic an average of 74.70 CZK allows him to fill one kilogram of natural gas. Compared to his summer of 2020 testing the Seat Ibiza TGI, this represents a 267% increase. After 4.3 kg he will cost 320 crowns for every 100 kg. This corresponds to 7 liters of diesel or 8 liters of petrol.

From the price overview we can also see that some stations in northern Moravia sell 1 kilogram of gas for 140 crowns. Near Prague, he found a top price of 99.90 CZK on Zdibe’s privately owned Fulby truck pump.

At the time of our visit, the stand was already out of use, but after the last refuel the mentioned price actually lit up on the display, with the MOL station 300 meters away being more acceptable of 69.90 CZK It’s absolutely amazing that everyone is here when you offer CNG.

The difference between the two nearby stations explains how to buy. Gas enters the car’s gas filling station through the same medium pressure pipe as in the apartment building. The operator of the station, which did not fix prices, today captures live movements on the Rotterdam Stock Exchange and sends them to its customers.

Many regular buses and municipal vehicles now also run on CNG. There is a public station on the premises of the Prague Service Company, where the garbage collectors of Prague refuel. Currently the price is 69.50 CZK per kilogram.

In addition to the gas tank, some CNG vehicles also have a full-size gas tank. For example, the 50 liter Škoda Octavia G-Tec 1.4 TSI. Today, users will be able to drive longer distances on gasoline, and it will be even cheaper. However, during the conversion from the end of 2018, when the more modern 1.5 TSI engine appeared, the Octavia switched to a so-called single fuel system with only an emergency tank for 9 liters of petrol. This is also common in other brands of cars.

During the same period diesel prices rose from 26.50 to 45 crowns, petrol from 27 to 39 crowns and LPG from 13 to 19 crowns.

Even in the future, CNG drives are unlikely. Russian gas is scarce on the global market, with high demand for supplies from the rest of the world and minimal discount potential. Global supplies of oil are more plentiful, which is best reflected in the price of gasoline. We produce more in Europe than we consume, which reflects an oversupply.

Liquid propane butane, or LPG, remains the most favorable. In the Czech Republic, it predominates as a refinery product associated with the production of gasoline. Only a small portion is obtained from natural gas filtration. Of course it forms a waste product and the demand for it does not grow significantly.His individually converted LPG Octavia, which we tested a year ago, at current prices he costs 176 crowns per 100 km takes. This equates to his 56% of CNG costs.
