Kulhavy, who won bronze among marathon runners at the European Championships in Jablonee in Podestudy this year, retired ahead of the 80th kilometer. At the time he was 14th in the standings. The Olympic champion from London 2012 and silver medalist from Rio 2016 will make a definitive conclusion next Friday at the Jaroslav Kolhau Grand Prix in Dolní Vítkovice in Ostrava.

After 120 kilometers at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, the best Czech was Martin Stoček in 10th place. New Zealand’s Samuel Geese won by 16 seconds over last year’s champion Andreas Seewald. In addition to Kulhavy, two former road workers, Peter Vakoy and Lebomite Petruch, also did not finish the race.
