Reunion with Sambi

When Tychy Jakub started his team in his country, he was quickly spotted by Anderlecht and decided to move to Belgium at 16. During his time as a member of their youth team, he played alongside Sambi Lokonga, who broke into the first team. .

His international career also began this season with the Polish under-16s, and he achieved full honors for each age group up to the minor years.

Teen dream with

With limited opportunities in Belgium, he made the move to Slovakia in January 2019, signing for Zeleziarne Podbrezova and making his senior debut after his 19th birthday in a win against FC Nitras III.

He quickly rose to prominence in new places, and although he was relegated at first, within seven months he had found himself in the arm of the captain. That saw MSK Zilina – one of Slovakia’s most successful teams – snap it up as relegation wrapped up scraps of titles.

Making an impact

His two seasons at the club went well. Jakub Zilina finished with the runners-up in his first season in the league, and the Slovak Cup final the following year, where he opened the scoring, but could not prevent an extra-time defeat to the giants Slovan Bratislava.

Then the eight-time Europa Conference League qualifier – his first taste of European football – before Italian side Spezia changed his potential and paid 2 million to sign him five minutes before the transfer window closed in August 2021.

Baptism of fire

Jakub Patience had to make his Spezia debut, but three months after his arrival he was handed a start at the San Siro in a Serie A game against Inter Milan. Most of his appearances in the first season came as a defensive midfielder, helping his team avoid relegation by six points.

After the change of manager in the summer, Jakub was transferred to the center at the beginning of this campaign. Spedia performed the position 20 times before moving north to London.

International recognition

His impressive displays in Serie A led to his first international call-up in June 2022, with Jakub making his full international debut in the Nations League against the Netherlands.

His outstanding performance drew praise from the Polish national team captain and icon, Robert Lewandowski: “Listen to me, this is a real player,” he said before: I noticed in the warm-up before the match against the Netherlands. In practice it is very difficult to see certain things. Then I saw him in an extraordinary struggle. Really great potential. “

Starring on the world stage

After impressing many in his first appearance in Poland, Jakub was a sure fire starter for his World Cup team, only to win five caps before the tournament. He was named alongside former Gunners Wojciech Szczęsny and Krystian Bielik in the 26-man squad that headed to Qatar.

He would play there for every moment of his campaign, which brought clean sheets in the opening two against Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Despite losing to Argentina in the final group game, the 22-year-old helped Poland reach the last 16 for the first time in 36 years, before they were defeated by eventual finalists France.
